Ashley Walker’s research focuses on finding the causes of impaired vascular health in older adults and how declines in vascular health contribute to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Her Aging and Vascular Physiology Laboratory seeks to better understand how impaired arteries and capillaries in the brain lead to dementia and the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Her recent research focuses on better understanding the reasons for the higher Alzheimer’s disease risk in women. Using this knowledge, Ashley and her colleagues hope to develop better prevention and treatment options for patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Ashley also mentors the next generation of researchers, with more than 10 female scientists currently training in her lab, including fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
