Biography:

Darren Johnson is an academic expert in green chemistry. He studies water pollution and purification, especially in relation to agriculture and industrial waste water. He focuses on supramolecular chemistry. Darren's recent research has uncovered ways to filter and capture rare earth minerals from waste water, creating two positive outcomes: clean water and highly valuable metals. He co-founded a UO spin-out company SupraSensor Technologies, which seeks to commercialize sensors for detection of nutrients and fertilizers in agriculture and industrial waste waters. Darren serves on the Synthetic and Biological Chemistry A (SBCA) study section at the NIH and is co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Inclusion Phenomena and Macrocyclic Chemistry (JIPH).
