Mark Gillem is an academic expert in architecture and urban planning, especially related to reinvigorating postindustrial cities and brownfields. He studies sustainable urbanism, which is an ecological approach to architectural and landscape design that balances social and environmental needs. He is the director of the urban design lab and the International Association for the Study of Traditional Environments.
