University Convocation is one of the UO’s proudest traditions and will be at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28. Convocation ceremonies are at Matthew Knight Arena with an academic processional. Convocation serves as the university’s official welcome to new students and faculty and celebrates academic excellence, innovation and intellectual curiosity.All faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in the processional. Any member of the UO community who has a bachelor’s degree or higher is invited to wear academic regalia for this event.
UO graduate student Danielle Barth recently earned second place in the Linguistic Society of America’s annual Student Abstract Awards.Barth, a graduate teaching fellow in linguistics, won for her paper “Reduction in Child Speech, Child-Directed Speech and Inter-Adult Speech. The award will be presented at the society’s annual meeting this January in Portland.

Tests have found no health or safety issues from the worn floor tiles, but sealant will be applied to prevent any problems in the future
