University of Oregon alumnus David Jeremiah died Oct. 7 at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., at age 79. Jeremiah retired in 1994, ending his 38-year Navy career with a four-year tenure as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Army Gens. Colin Powell and John Shalikashvili.

Work-Life Resources in the University of Oregon's Human Resources office, will host the Webinar, "Youth on Campus: Next Steps in Developing Practices and Protocols," from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

University of Oregon employees who plan to participate in the State of Oregon Employees’ Charitable Fund Drive should submit their pledges by Dec. 31. The Charitable Fund Drive, which began in 1989, is an annual charitable giving campaign for state of Oregon employees. It consolidates charitable solicitation into an annual campaign and allows online submission of pledges and optional payroll deductions for contributions. Participants are able to choose which charities their donations will serve.

The University of Oregon's Department of Human Physiology will host a lecture on “Patient Outcomes Following Knee Injury: Clinical Trends and Current Research,” on Nov. 8. The talk, given by Andrew Winterstein of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, is part of an ongoing lecture series presented by the UO's Human Physiology Department. Winterstein’s lecture will take place in Lillis 132, from 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.

Teachers from 26 countries participating in the University of Oregon American English Institute will make short presentations today (Nov. 4) and Nov. 5 in Room 115 of Pacific Hall. The presentations are the final activity of the teachers’ 2.5-week stay at the university. They will present portions of activities from the two-hour workshops they will deliver in their home countries. The presentations run from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today – Monday, Nov. 4 – and from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 5.
