Intel Corporation announced recently that the board of directors elected UO alum Renée James to be president, assuming her new role on May 16.James, 48 -- who earned her bachelor's degree in 1986 and master's degree in business administration in 1992 from the UO -- began her career with Intel through the company's acquisition of Bell Technologies.
The Center for the Study of Women in Society at the University of Oregon hosts the second annual CSWS Northwest Women Writers Symposium May 9-11, free and open to the public. Held in cooperation with Eugene Pubic Library, the event, “Common Ground: Land, Language, Story,” headlines American Book Award winning author Ruth Ozeki, who will read from her latest novel and participate in two panel discussions Other features include Northwest women writers participating in panels and leading workshops:
The University of Oregon's Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art celebrated its 80th birthday on Saturday, May 4 with a gala that drew more than 200 people for an evening of dancing and donating. Attendees, who paid $80 for admission, also had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for art and jewelry. Proceeds from the gala went to fund the variety of K-12 education programs the JSMA organizes to provide essential arts education to schools throughout the state.
All members of the University of Oregon community are welcome at a memorial for David Baker at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 13, in Knight Library, Room 101. Baker, who served as an instructional technology consultant at the UO Libraries, died April 29 at age 35. He began working at the UO Libraries as a student assistant in 2002. He joined the library staff in 2004, initially working in Access Services and then joining the library’s Center for Media and Educational Technologies in 2007.
