Sam Dotters-Katz — a student in the UO School of Law — on May 25 began his second term as president for the Associated Students of the University of Oregon. In 2008, during his junior year as an undergraduate political science and history major, Dotters-Katz was elected to the highest student position at the university for the first time. A friend's suggestion that they partner as running mates spurred his first run for the ASUO presidency; however, this year was a different story.

A celebration of the role of Oregon’s Latino community in helping shape the state’s cultural, social and political history will be held June 6 in Knight Library on the University of Oregon campus. “Latino Roots Celebration,” running from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., features music, speakers, a display of student work completed in a Latino studies class and more.

The UO’s Computer and Information Science department will host a forum June 5 on data-mining, social networks and the impact on health-care outcomes. Dejing Dou, a professor in the department, and his SMASH research team will host a forum on their project, “Understanding the Mechanism of Social Network Influence in Health Outcomes through Multidimensional and Semantic Data Mining Approaches.”
