Applications now open for the new UO Leadership Academy

The UO Leadership Academy, a new development program for administrative and academic leaders, is being launched to expand the pipeline of diverse, talented leaders at the university.

Developed with the support of the Division of Equity and Inclusion and the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs, the academy seeks to create an inclusive community of campus leaders and increase knowledge of effective leadership models. Participants will gain knowledge around concepts of transformational leadership and learn how to frame leadership strategies within current research, theory and best practices.

“We view leadership as the productive use of agency, influence and relationships to enact positive change,” said Chris Esparza, member of the academy’s advisory team and associate director of the Holden Center. “Examples of session topics will include emotionally intelligent leadership strategies, leading organizational change and ways to engage in crucial, high-stakes dialogue.”

Nationally recognized leadership educator Idahlynn Karre will facilitate the program. Karre has a 45-year career in higher education as a professor, leader, administrator, speaker, consultant and coach.

Mid- and senior-level employees whose work focuses on the academic mission of the university are encouraged to apply. Twenty-five participants will be selected from across the UO to join the year-long cohort experience. Applications are due by March 2, and applicants will be notified by early April.

The academy’s advisory team consists of Esparza; Jennifer Espinola, dean of students at the School of Law; and Sierra Dawson, assistant vice provost for academic affairs.

More information about the academy and application information is available on the OPAA website.
