Frances Bronet, who has served as acting provost since August, has been named provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

“It is always bittersweet when a respected colleague accepts a new opportunity, and today we have exactly that,” Scott Coltrane, interim president, wrote in a message to campus.

“Frances has been a great friend to me since I joined the university in 2008. Her counsel has been invaluable, particularly during my time as interim president.” Coltrane added.

Bronet had served as dean of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts since 2005, before she accepted the role of acting provost.

“Frances has earned the respect of the entire campus community,” wrote Coltrane. “A tireless advocate for faculty, she has done a fantastic job as provost, leading the charge on our strategic planning efforts, while meeting the day-to-day challenges of the university with passion and professionalism.”

“My time at the University of Oregon has been nothing less than extraordinary,” said Bronet. “This is a great university, made up of exceptional people, and I am enormously proud of the work that we have done together.”

The transition coincides with the arrival of incoming president Michael Schill. At that time, Coltrane will return to his role as provost. Brook Muller, acting dean in the School of Architecture and Allied Arts, will remain in his role until a national search is conducted.
