Collective bargaining: Updates on employee union negotiations

The University of Oregon works closely with several labor organizations that represent many of its employees. In partnership with union representatives, Employee and Labor Relations coordinates the negotiation and implementation of collective bargaining agreements and provides periodic updates to keep the campus community informed. Recent developments include:

Service Employees International Union:
Oregon’s public universities and SEIU have agreed to delay negotiations until this fall and extend their current contract through January 31, 2022. In addition to extending the current collective bargaining agreement, the letter of agreement ensures that step increases and the employee premium subsidy continue and that inclement weather leave remains available.

Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation:
UO and GTFF accepted a letter of agreement last November that extends the parties’ collective bargaining agreement by one year to June 15, 2023. It also addresses several other important shared interests such as COVID-19 safety confirmations, increases and expanded access to the Graduate Student Assistance Fund, funding extension for eligible graduate employees in PhD programs, among other terms.

United Academics:
UO and UA will resume the collective bargaining process for a new contract during the winter term. Negotiations are expected to continue at least through the spring term. The current contract was extended by one year. It expires on June 30, 2021. Visit the HR website for more information and periodic updates about the collective bargaining process.

University of Oregon Police Association:
Negotiations between the UO and the UOPA remain open with no new updates to report.
