After almost seven years as assistant vice president and dean of students, Paul Shang is retiring Tuesday, Feb. 2. Shang, who announced his retirement earlier this fall, joined the university in May 2009.
Under Shang’s leadership, the Office of the Dean of Students expanded support to the fraternity and sorority life community, increased resources dedicated to prevention programming, started a tradition of service projects at bowl games, and was the university’s primary contact during student protests and student-involved emergencies.
“Paul has served UO students and their families with great care and compassion and has been an outstanding colleague who will be missed,” said Vice President for Student Life Robin Holmes.
A search for Shang’s replacement will begin in the next few weeks. Holmes will fill in as dean of students until a hire is made. Faculty and staff who need to contact Holmes in her interim dean of students role should contact the dean of students office at 541-346-3216 or online at the dean of students website.
