Dec. 8 – Brian Klopotek, associate professor of indigenous, race and ethnic studies, has been appointed to serve as a Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador. Klopotek was a Fulbright Scholar in 2018 and became an ambassador through a competitive process. Ambassadors serve two-year terms and present information on their Fulbright experience at multiple events on college campuses and academic conferences each year.
Dec. 8 – The counseling psychology program in the College of Educations has been selected to receive the Student Diversity Initiative Award from the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students. The grant supports the recruitment, retention and leadership training of doctoral students in psychology or closely related programs of diverse backgrounds.
Oct. 6 – Doug Toomey, geophysicist and professor of earth sciences, has received the Paul G. Silver Award for Outstanding Scientific Service by AGU, an international Earth and space science society. The joint award with Ramon Arrowsmith of Arizona State University is in the area of geodesy, seismology, and tectonophysics sections.
Oct. 5 – Tara Fickle, associate professor of English, has earned a 2020 American Book Award for “The Race Card: From Gaming Technologies to Model Minorities.” The award was given by The Before Columbus Foundation, a nonprofit educational and service organization dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of contemporary American multicultural literature.
