June 22 – Zachary Wallmark, assistant professor of musicology and affiliated faculty with the Center for Translational Neuroscience, has been awarded a $20,000 Grammy Museum Grant. The grant will support research to explore the neural link between empathic social processing and music emotion recognition. The grant program supports projects at the forefront of exploring music's beneficial intersection with science, as well as efforts to preserve the recorded sound heritage of the Americas.

June 22 – Diana Garvin, assistant professor of Italian, has been awarded a Getty Library Research Grant for "The Bean in the Machine: Making Coffee Under Fascism." Getty Library Research Grants provide partial, short-term support for researchers requiring the use of specific collections housed in the Getty Research Institute. 

June 22 – The University of Oregon has earned a gold award in the area of waste management from the National Association of College and University Food Services. The award recognizes the UO’s reusable program at residential campus dining locations. The program was launched last fall to reduce single-use plates, bowls and silverware.

May 18 – Allison Madar, assistant professor of history, has been selected as a Kluge Fellow at the Library of Congress. The John W. Kluge Center encourages humanistic and social science research that uses the library’s collections. Madar will research and write a book that examines the legal and social dynamics of servitude in 18th century Virginia.

May 18 – Willie and Donald Tykeson Hall topped the Education Higher Ed category in Oregon's Excellence in Concrete Awards. Martina Oxoby, owner’s representative in Campus Planning and Facilities Management, was the project manager on the building. Tykeson Hall was constructed with a post tensioned concrete structure inlaid with highly energy efficient radiant heating and cooling piping. 

May 5 – UO’s Dining Facilities and Services earned a 2019 regional award in the Environmental Protection Agency Food Recovery Challenge. The UO was recognized for its composting program, which has diverted more than 370 tons of food waste from landfills in 2018. Food donation efforts from dining facilities diverted an additional 50 tons of food that year.

April 13 – Vera Keller, associate professor of history, has been awarded a 2020 Guggenheim Fellowship. The award is in the area of Intellectual & Cultural History for “Curating the German Enlightenment: Johann Daniel Major (1634-1693) and the Experimental Century.” The Guggenheim Fellowship program was established in 1925 to support artists, scholars in the humanities and social sciences, and scientific researchers.

April 13 – Bryna Goodman, professor of history and affiliated with Asian studies, was selected as one of 33 National Humanities Center 2020–21 Fellows, which will provide funding, resources and time for her research on “Finance and Fortune: Economics, Calculation, and the Fate of the Chinese Republic.” The NHC is the world’s only independent institute dedicated exclusively to advanced study of the humanities.

April 13 – Lauren Hallett, assistant professor of biology and environmental studies, was named an Early Career Fellow for a term of five years from the Ecological Society of America. She runs the Hallett Lab, which aims to produce usable science to improve ecosystem management. The ESA was founded in 1915 to promote ecological science.
