Employees can get assistance in designing effective surveys

Looking to create a survey? There’s a committee for that. The University of Oregon Survey Committee is a grassroots effort born by the dedication of six staff members, all with a shared goal to support colleagues and ensure that every survey is impactful and aligned with institutional goals.

The committee can assist by reviewing survey plans to ensure they are well-structured and effective in gathering meaningful data for your research. It helps optimize survey design, improve response rates and coordinate timing to avoid overlap with other surveys, all while minimizing survey fatigue. By providing expert guidance and resources, it ensures that surveys contribute valuable insights to research findings, discoveries and ongoing projects.

"Prior to its establishment, there were instances where three large-scale surveys on student health and well-being overlapped. The committee influenced staff in key areas to streamline these into a single, more comprehensive survey, eliminating duplication and being more mindful of students' time," said Renee Delgado-Riley, director of assessment and research.

The Survey Guide on the Office of Institutional Research website hosts a survey calendar, best practice resources, a list of committee members and a link to request a consultation. Users must be on the UO network to access the files.
