Supervising a student employee or a team of student employees is a unique opportunity that can come with working at a university. The Student Employee Enhancement program holds a regular SEE Summit to bring student employee supervisors together to share best practices and learn more about how to create meaningful opportunities for student employees.

This year’s summit theme is “From Menial to Meaningful: Building Self-Efficacy to Empower Student Employees.” The summit will open with a keynote presentation by Mandy Devereux, executive director of career initiatives at Willamette University. UO employees who supervise student employees are encouraged to sign up.

Following the opening keynote, summit participants will attend presentation sessions facilitated by student supervisors from across campus. Session topics include career readiness, improving the student experience, creating relationships with Gen Z, among others. Each session is scheduled for 45 minutes.

Kendelyn Thomas, interim coordinator for student orientation programs, will present about using communication plans to support team building and an inclusive work environment for young professionals.

“Communication plans have a positive impact for students to feel heard, seen and valued at work,” Thomas said. “I hope student supervisors will feel empowered to take this same tool back to their students for their staff to feel more supported at work, while learning important transferable skills that will serve students in many aspects of their lives.”

The SEE Summit is from 1 to 5 p.m. on March 1 in the Erb Memorial Union. The agenda for the summit and links to register for the sessions through MyTrack can be found on the SEE website.
