Organizers of the UO’s homecoming weekend are looking for faculty members willing to open their classrooms to visiting alumni, parents and family members.

Homecoming and Fall Family Weekend is Oct. 28-30. The Division of Student Life is reaching out to instructors and professors interested in allowing classroom visitors Friday, Oct. 28.

Willing faculty members are asked to submit information about their open classes via a Qualtrics form or by emailing the course name, course number, instructor name, location and time available to myduckis@uoregon.edu by Wednesday, Oct. 19.

“Involved and informed parent and family members are instrumental in their students’ success and persistence,” said Erika Swanson, director of Parent and Family Programs. “With your help, we can provide these families the opportunity to experience UO academics. Our visitors sincerely appreciate the ability to witness the caliber of instruction and student inquiry that happens every day across campus.”

Swanson said that when parents and family members sit in on a class, it fosters confidence in their students’ choice to attend the UO while also allowing them to better understand their students’ day-to-day experience. Parents and family members will be asked not to participate or disrupt class unless the instructor approves.

The UO anticipates more than 1,000 family members will be on campus. Visitors also will spend time in other areas of campus at homecoming activities, a volleyball game, the Taste of Home brunch, a football game and Run with the Duck.
