Faculty members interested in sustainability and community-engaged learning are encouraged to apply for a new fellowship offered by the Office of Sustainability.
The application process is quite simple: just a few short responses about potential interests and ideas. Faculty from all disciplines and experience levels are encouraged to apply, particularly those with no previous experience in including sustainability in their curriculum or research.
Interdisciplinary team applications will also be accepted. These short applications are due Jan. 23.
The Sustainability Faculty Fellowship provides opportunities to meet community partners and provides a network of colleagues who seek local context to enrich their courses.
“This is an excellent opportunity for faculty to meet staff from City of Eugene, EWEB and St. Vincent de Paul and explore mutually beneficial partnerships,” said Steve Mital, the UO’s director of sustainability.
Ten faculty fellows will receive a $500 award and take part in a three-day intensive workshop in June discussing issues of sustainability and community-engaged learning. The workshop will include site visits to government, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, giving fellows the opportunity to establish partnerships for learning opportunities within the community.
After the workshop, fellows can receive an additional $500 award for submitting curriculum that has been revised or newly created to incorporate topics of sustainability.
The Sustainability Faculty Fellowship is made possible by the generous support of The Duck Store. For more information on the fellowship, and instructions on how to apply, see the Office of Sustainability website.
