The Campus Child Care and Family Partners Committee will host Family Play and Resource Day on Saturday, Oct. 15, with activities for students, faculty and staff to take a break from work to play on campus with their families.
The event also includes a family resource fair, which provides an opportunity to learn about resources available for parents and their children across campus. No registration is required to attend.
The child care and family partners group represents units on campus that share a common goal of connecting students and staff with campus and community resources to help with their parenting and family needs. Committee members work collaboratively to develop and promote campus family resources as well as discuss family issues and identify best practices.
“Students and staff do not always know that there are resources available to them and their families or how to access those resources,” said Kaia Rogers, director of human resources programs and services. “This event brings a variety of resources to them and also provides an opportunity for the families of our students, faculty and staff to connect with each other and experience the university in a different way.”
Family Play and Resource Day is open to all students, faculty and staff affiliated with the university. It begins with an open swim-and-gym opportunity at the Student Recreation Center from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. followed by music, food and fun on the southeast lawn of the Erb Memorial Union from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Kids can play with crafts or get their faces painted while adults visit the family resource booths to learn more about the many family and child care programs and services available at the university. An event schedule is posted on the HR website.
Justine Carpenter, director of nontraditional student engagement and success, said she’s excited to see the event come together as an opportunity for students with child care and family needs to get support from the university.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for students, staff and faculty who are parents to share the UO campus experience with their families. Students working toward educational goals while also fulfilling family responsibilities can discover valuable resources available to support them during the pursuit of their education,” Carpenter said,
