Frohnmayer memorial service to be held at Matthew Knight Arena

The University of Oregon will join the state in remembering the legacy of UO President Emeritus Dave Frohnmayer at a celebration of life Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at the Matthew Knight Arena.

Doors open to the public at 1 p.m., and a reception will be held afterward. Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff across the state that day.

Frohnmayer died Tuesday at age 74 from prostate cancer. He was the UO’s president for 15 years, served as dean and professor in the UO School of Law and was a state representative and the state’s attorney general.

The family asks that memorial contributions go to the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund at 1801 Willamette St., Suite 200, Eugene 97401. The inherited blood disease led to the deaths of two of Frohnmayer’s daughters, and he and his wife, Lynn, established the fund to help search for a cure.

Additional opportunities to remember Frohnmayer’s contributions to public service have arisen across campus and in the community. The Eugene Symphony will begin its March 19 concert with a tribute to Frohnmayer by performing "Mighty Oregon," UO's fight song. Discounted tickets are available online and at box office locations (Hult Center and UO Ticket office) for $10 off with the code: OREGON. The concert begins at 8 p.m.

In addition to the celebration of life, a memorial and tribute book is available in the Johnson Hall lobby for those wishing to leave remembrances or drop off cards or notes for his family.

In addition, Lane Transit District is providing free EmX transportation from noon to 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to park anywhere along the EmX route for a free ride to the arena.
