Delve into the world of eco-friendly transit this year at UO’s third annual Transportation Day, a daylong event dedicated to getting around campus and Eugene without using fossil fuels.
The UO Bike Program, UO LiveMove and the UO Student Sustainability Center will host this year’s Transportation Day on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The free event will familiarize students, faculty and staff with modes of green transportation. Located on the Memorial Quad between the Lillis Business Complex and Knight Library, the day will include music, stickers and swag prizes available to attendees, including gear from Portland Design Works, Planet Bike and Showers Pass.
“UO Transportation Day is all about connecting students with the resources to bike, walk, and bus, and have fun,” said Kelsey Moore, the UO Bike Program coordinator. “I love all the energy in the air and seeing everyone genuinely connecting and learning more about getting around Eugene.”
Screenprinting by the UO Craft Center will be available on site during the event, along with bike registration and transportation route planning with the Eugene transportation planning team.
Attendees will be able to enter to win waterproof clothing from Showers Pass, a waterproof bike bag from Ortlieb Outdoor Equipment, bike lights from Planet Bike and more.
More than 200 people participated in last year’s Transportation Day to learn about transportation services on campus, get free t-shirts, fill out their Transportation Day “passports” and interact with local bicycle businesses.
“The bike culture of the UO really shines at this event,” Moore said. “It’s fun to see new students empowering themselves to bike to campus and beyond.”
Transportation Day partners are the UOPD, UO Parking and Transportation, and the UO Craft Center. Among the attendees will be Lane Transit district, transportation planners from the city of Eugene, Hilyard Adaptive Recreation, Safe Routes to School, Arriving by Bike Bike Shop and Eugene Bike Share.
