Missy Matella, currently assistant general counsel at the University of Oregon, will be the new senior director of employee and labor relations in the Office of Human Resources.
Matella will assume her new role in human resources March 5 while maintaining a limited appointment in the Office of the General Counsel to provide legal advice on some labor and employment matters.
“I am delighted to have Missy join the HR leadership team,” said Nancy Resnick, associate vice president and chief human resources officer. “Her institutional knowledge and depth of experience bring continuity as well as opportunity to our employee and labor relations efforts.”
Matella, a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law, joined the UO general counsel’s office in 2014. As assistant general counsel, she played an active role in collective bargaining and implementation of UO policies, such as the policies for officers of administration and the discrimination reporting protocols.
With the cooperation of the Office of the General Counsel, she served as interim senior director of employee and labor relations over the last several months while the university conducted a national search.
Resnick said Matella’s depth of experience and expertise in employee and labor relations, along with her demonstrated commitment to fostering positive relationships with all employee groups, will be a great asset to human resources.
“I have greatly enjoyed my time in the general counsel’s office working on a wide variety of HR initiatives,” Matella said. “I look forward to making human resources a primary focus of my work and building relationships with employee groups and university leadership as we work together to advance employee and labor relations at the University of Oregon.”
