Students aren’t the only ones new to the University of Oregon this time of year.
Dozens of new faculty members and officers of administration have joined the university this academic term. The Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs wants these new faculty and OAs to know that a number of workshops and training opportunities are available across campus to help new additions make the best of their careers at the university.
“We know that starting a new position at a new university can be exciting, exhilarating and even a bit overwhelming,” said Ken Doxsee, vice provost for academic affairs. “We want to help provide information and resources to help these new faculty members and OAs be successful.”
Knowing that the beginning of the academic year can be a flurry of activity, the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs has developed a list of workshops and events offered for new faculty and OAs during the next few weeks. The list includes opportunities for networking, such as the Welcome Reception for New Women Faculty; subject-specific information, such as Introduction to Sponsored Projects; and other general new employee onboarding opportunities offered by human resources.
The office’s new-hire materials also include general information and an overview of resources from across campus. The list is a snapshot of opportunities but is not intended to be comprehensive.
Additional professional development opportunities will be posted to the workplace section of Around the O. New employees are also encouraged to contact campus resources, home units, schools or college offices directly for additional training opportunities.
The list of opportunities and other new hire materials is available on the academic affairs website.
