MNCH family day will probe the mysteries of the deep

For millions of years, the Pacific Ocean has been home to various ancient and mysterious sea creatures, and on Feb. 20 the UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History will give families an opportunity to uncover that mystery.

Mysteries of the Deep! Family Day” will host events such as crafting seahorse fossils and sea creature puppets, pirate storytelling time with local musician Cullen Vance and an appearance from the UO Institute of Ecology and Evolution scientists, who will bring a live threespine stickleback fish.

The Buzz Saw Sharks of Long Ago” exhibit will also be on display. The exhibit is a mix of art, fossils and a “good dose of scientific humor to shed light on this freaky and fascinating fish,” according to the exhibit’s information page.

The event will be happening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the museum, and Vance will appear at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The event is $10 per family or free for members of the museum.
