The Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs has launched an internal search for a new vice provost for academic affairs.

The vice provost’s primary focus is on the success of University of Oregon faculty. Duties include promotion and tenure, hiring, recognition, and a range of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. The position will also be responsible for leading a campuswide effort to re-envision the academic program review process.

 “The vice provost will provide key leadership around one of the university’s top priorities — faculty excellence,” said Scott Pratt, executive vice provost for academic affairs. “It is an exciting opportunity and I encourage you to help us build an outstanding candidate pool for this important role.”

Qualified full professors with an interest in faculty support processes are encouraged to apply. The position is posted as full time, though the office is willing to consider a half-time appointment. Nominations for the position will be accepted and should be submitted to the search committee chair, Jane Gordon, vice provost for Portland, at jgordon@uoregon.edu.

The position has been held on an interim basis since September by Ellen Herman, professor of history and faculty co-director of the UO’s Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics, and Rebecca Flynn, managing co-director of the Wayne Morse Center.

The position description, announcement and search committee are posted to the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs website. The first consideration deadline is March 19, and the position will remain open until it is filled.
