Quiet period and paid floating holiday announced for 2025-26

The University of Oregon will observe a quiet period from Dec. 25 through Jan. 1, 2026. The university will also offer a floating holiday for eligible employees to use in 2025-26.

Quiet period

The quiet period is a time for university employees to relax and recharge. Units are encouraged to reduce operations as much as possible, and supervisors should support employees in using their paid time off as operations allow. During the quiet period, everyone should try to limit creating new work and hold off on emails, messages and calls.

If you will be working during the quiet period, consider scheduling any non-urgent emails or Teams messages to send after Jan. 1. This small step helps colleagues who are not working to disconnect and allows those who are working to focus without as many interruptions.

If the quiet period isn’t possible in your unit or department, talk with your supervisor about scheduling time off when it’s better for your team.

Floating holiday

The floating holiday gives eligible employees the flexibility to take a day off that aligns with a cultural or religious observance or any personal value or tradition. It can be used anytime between Dec. 1 and Nov. 30, 2026.
