The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation has unveiled a new website that offers a more seamless integration between its various administrative units, greater accessibility, better navigation and an improved user experience.

“As the research profile of the University of Oregon continue to rise, it’s critical that we keep up with the expanding needs of our faculty, students and staff,” said David Conover, vice president for research and innovation. “Those engaged in discovery, innovation and creative activity will find the tools they’re looking for and will continue to see new efficiencies emerge as we introduce additional digital resources.”

The staged rollout starting later this spring of a new Research Administration Portal, a suite of digital tools and services to streamline research administration processes, is one such example. The office will add new modules to the portal to help manage activities such as conflicts of interests and commitments, animal research and research involving human subjects.

The website connects users to the office of research and innovation’s expansive list of services, which includes everything from research compliance to undergraduate research to innovation partnership. In addition to supporting the university’s research centers and essential research core facilities, the office helps faculty members identify funding opportunities and oversees and coordinates the UO’s research proposal submissions, compliance and contract and grant administration.

The site offers a novel way of envisioning research administrative units as part of an integrated support network. A Navigating Your Research roadmap offers researchers and innovators a means of accessing relevant resources without necessarily knowing which unit can best address their immediate needs.

For example, researchers seeking funding for new projects could start by accessing the Plan portion of the website and then accessing the Find Funding page, where they could choose from a host of resources, ranging from Internal Funding Opportunities to information about Honors and Awards to a signup sheet for the UO’s Funding Opportunities Newsletter.

Or, researchers seeking to submit inventions, copyrightable works, software and digital media, and research tools could start by visiting the Manage section of the website and then accessing Innovation to Impact page, where they could find a link to report a new innovation.

Some aspects of the website haven’t changed. Website users can still directly access the office’s administrative units, and researchers seeking to apply for external funding will continue to connect to the UO’s longstanding Electronic Proposal Clearance System.
