The University of Oregon voluntary summer work share program was announced to campus in an email from Mark Schmelz, chief human resources officer, on May 27. The election period for the employee-elected, unit-approved program ends on June 3.
This unique program lets employees work fewer hours from June 14 to August 14, with their pay adjusted accordingly, while health insurance and leave accruals continue without change. Employees would recoup their UO pay with unemployment benefits, including the additional $600 per week in federal stimulus benefits that are available through July 25. The program enables the university to reduce some expenses to offset impacts on revenue during this period of financial uncertainty.
