The University of Oregon Police Department will conduct an active shooter training exercise for police officers and dispatchers Aug. 24 and 25.
The training will be held in McKenzie Hall, located at 1101 Kincaid Street, between 1-5 p.m. Saturday and 5-9 p.m. Sunday.
All training will be done inside the building. The building manager, custodial operations supervisor, construction project manager, Campus Planning and Facilities Management work control center, and Scheduling and Event Services have all been made aware of this training date.
Passersby may see police vehicles nearby and uniformed officers entering and exiting the building. Some loud sounds may be heard.
Signs will be posted at all McKenzie Hall entrances and exits, as well as around the building. The university is also notifying nearby business and officials at Bushnell University.
Even with advance knowledge, those passing near McKenzie Hall may experience adverse reactions because of the sights and sounds that will be part of the training. Student crisis support is available 24/7 by calling 541-346-3227. Visit the Mental Health Services and Employee Assistance Plans websites for additional resources.
Regular training and exercises are vital to developing and maintaining key emergency response skills and are critical to the overall safety and security of the campus.
Additional information will be posted to alerts.uoregon.edu as it becomes available.
