More than 500 UO employees took part in a pair of recent events that recognized the contributions of those who have worked at the university for a significant portion of their professional lives.
Each year, the Office of Human Resources holds two events to celebrate employees who have worked at the university for five to 45 years. One event includes all those reaching milestone work anniversaries, and the other honors those who have been at the UO for 25 years or more.
The general reception took place in the Erb Memorial Union ballroom with more than 500 people on hand. In 2017, 430 employees reached a major milestone anniversary and 125 attended the reception, along with their supervisors and co-workers.
The reception highlighted the dedication of employees in a party atmosphere that included games, prizes and a photo booth.
At the second reception, 43 classified employees and officers of administration who reached major milestones at the 25-year mark and beyond were honored. The event, held at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, included remarks from President Michael H. Schill.
Wearing yellow flowers signifying their dedication to the community, audience members heard Schill reflect on the role of dedicated employees in the university. Nancy Resnick, chief human resources officer, said the attendees had “touched so many lives” through their years of service.
The events highlighted the changes witnessed by UO employees. Sandee Bybee, HR employee engagement and communications manager, walked the audience through the historical milestones in pop culture and at the university in the year recognized employees began working at the UO.
Dee Rawson, a senior human resources specialist, was honored for 35 years of service at the milestone luncheon.
“It was so nice to take the time to share memories and laughter with others who have also worked at the university for so many years,” she said. “My mother and aunt both worked over 40 years here, so like many others, I am continuing the family tradition.”
More information, including photos from both events and a list of prize winners, is available on the HR website.
