This spring, Adobe Creative Cloud software is available for use by all University of Oregon students, staff and faculty members on both personal and university-owned computers.
Student access to Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and related Adobe applications was previously limited to campus computer labs. Adobe is temporarily allowing use on students' personal computers during campus closures due to COVID-19 (coronavirus).
Separately, Creative Cloud is available to all UO faculty and staff members thanks to a phased, two-year project completed in the fall. Previously access had been limited to certain UO departments.
On March 23, Adobe granted UO's request to expand student access, allowing students to download, install and use Creative Cloud applications on up to two personal devices per person. Instructions for students are available in the UO Service Portal. Adobe is granting such access until May 31 but has stated that it "will update this date based on how the situation evolves so students can continue their learning remotely."
Employees may install the software on up to two computers, which may include both university-owned and personal devices. To obtain Creative Cloud, faculty and staff members should follow the instructions for employees in the UO Service Portal.
Use of Creative Cloud software through the university requires logging in with a UO email address and password. Information Services reminds students and employees to never share passwords for their Duck ID accounts or UO email addresses with anyone else, including family members, friends, co-workers or UO IT staff.
Adobe is one of several companies increasing the availability of their software during the COVID-19 outbreak. For example, IBM is allowing students, staff and faculty members to install its SPSS Statistics and SPSS Amos statistical analysis software on personal computers through Dec. 31.
In addition, SAS data management software for Windows can be installed on personal computers through June 15. To download SAS, students, staff and faculty members can visit the UO software center, log in with a Duck ID and then visit the SAS page.
Most other software from the UO's computer labs is available through the new campus virtual lab.
For help with software, staff and faculty members should contact IT staff in their respective units, if available, or the Technology Service Desk or they should visit the site-licensed software page in the UO Service Portal. Students can contact the Tech Desk or visit the site-licensed software page.
