The deadline is approaching for faculty research and teaching fellowships awarded by the Oregon Humanities Center.

These annual fellowships offer faculty members an opportunity to pursue research in the humanities or to develop a new humanities course for undergraduate students.

“The Oregon Humanities Center fellowships are an important way that we promote and strengthen the humanities at the UO,” said Paul Peppis, director of the Oregon Humanities Center. “These awards empower faculty members to pursue teaching and research opportunities that deepen our understanding of some of the most important issues in our society.”

The research fellowship provides UO tenure-track faculty with a break from teaching for a term so they can pursue research full time. Recipients will be introduced to a community of fellow humanists and presented with opportunities to deliver public presentations on their work throughout the term.

The teaching fellowship offers faculty members support to develop a new undergraduate humanities course or substantially redesign an existing one. Faculty may apply individually or in collaboration with another faculty member.

Proposed courses may be of any size, and they may be introductory or advanced. While courses developed under the teaching fellowship must be primarily intended for undergraduate students, they may also be open to graduate students.

The fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis through an application process. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 30.  More details, applications and information on past recipients is available on the Oregon Humanities Center webpage.
