Last week, Provost and Senior Vice President Patrick Phillips commended the UO’s faculty for finding creative and innovative ways to engage students as the university continues to adjust to an environment using remote learning.
Faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Journalism and Communication, the College of Design and the School of Music and Dance are featured in a narrative format on the provost’s website.
“We are seeing many impressive examples of faculty going above and beyond adjusting to adapt creatively, resourcefully and courageously to the new learning environment we find ourselves in as a result of COVID-19 (coronavirus),” Phillips said in a message sent to faculty.
Whether it’s the creation of Hollywood-style class trailers, experiments with Zoom to create the feeling of a classroom, mailing art and costume design supply kits, reaching out to students for individual check-ins or shifting gears to an entirely new outreach project for the term, UO faculty show why students can count on them to deliver compelling course material despite the new challenge of remote teaching, Phillips said.
The provost’s office will continue to gather faculty success stories — bloopers are welcome, too — and highlight them in throughout the spring term. Anyone who knows of a creative strategy for remote learning the whole community can celebrate, send an email to provost@uoregon.edu.
