Peer reviewers for UO accreditation ask for employee feedback

Peer reviewers from regional universities will be visiting the Eugene campus to assess the University of Oregon. This is part of the accreditation process to evaluate the UO according to Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities’ standards on institutional effectiveness and student success.

Institutional accreditation is a process of recognizing educational institutions for their performance, integrity and quality. It applies to the institution as a whole and is not granted permanently or for a definite number of years. Accreditation is an ongoing status that must be reaffirmed periodically.

The reviewers invite faculty and staff to individual forums where attendees will respond to questions and share feedback about life at the UO. To ensure honest and authentic feedback, the commission has required that supervisors do not attend the forums.

The faculty feedback forum will be hosted on Oct. 9 from 2-3 p.m. in the Erb Memorial Union Crater Lake Rooms. The staff feedback forum will be hosted Oct. 10 from 10-11 a.m. in the EMU Ballroom. Snacks and coffee will be served at the forums.

Any feedback will be considered by the reviewers. Their findings will be reported at the exit meeting on Oct. 11 from 9-9:30 a.m. in the EMU Ballroom.

The UO has been continuously accredited by the commission since 1918 and was most recent reaffirmed in July 2017. The university initiated the current seven-year accreditation cycle in 2018. To learn more about UO’s accreditation, and to follow updates about the upcoming peer review, visit the provost’s website.
