More than 100 volunteers are needed to put on 39 separate school and department graduation ceremonies, and the Division of Student Life is looking for students, faculty and staff to get involved in the biggest celebration on campus.
Volunteers will be assigned to tasks varying from organizing graduates during the Duck Grad Parade to welcoming guests into Matthew Knight Arena to assisting with each department ceremony. They will be trained during a one-hour seminar on either June 1 or 2, where they will receive a personalized schedule of where to be, when to be there and what they will be doing on commencement day, Monday, June 13.
Volunteers will be equipped with a radio, maps and ceremony times on a lanyard to ensure the day goes smoothly. In addition, they will receive a free t-shirt and will be well fed throughout their shift.
“This is my fourth year organizing the volunteers and we get a little better each year,” said Sarah Smith-Benanti. “My goal is to make it an excellent experience for my volunteers so that they can easily serve our guests, because this is the single biggest day on our campus.”
To sign up, volunteers can fill out this survey, which describes each job with the time requirement.
