The Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon will have the organization’s financial future top of mind when it meets later this week and receives updates on critical budget balancing initiatives.
Trustees will discuss the ongoing resource allocation redesign taking place in several schools and colleges, while also learning about the implementation of the new provost-driven institutional hiring initiative.
Additionally, the recently completed analysis of existing budget gaps will be shared with trustees, as the Office of the Provost works with academic leadership to balance school and college budgets by 2020.
Trustees will be asked to approve a continuing budget authorization during the finance committee meeting to allow for ongoing expenditures while the university awaits a final budget from the state in early July. A final budget for the 2017-18 fiscal year will then be brought to the board in September.
The board will also consider President Michael H. Schill’s recommendation to rename Cedar Hall for DeNorval Unthank Jr., an alumnus of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts.
The university will also provide details about ongoing cost saving and budget reduction measures taking place in nonacademic units that are designed to balance the books, in conjunction with the recently approved tuition increases for the next academic year.
The committees and full board meet June 1 and 2 in the Giustina Ballroom of the Ford Alumni Center.
