More than 100 volunteers are needed to put on 44 separate school and department graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2017, and the Division of Student Life is looking for students, faculty and staff who want to get involved in the biggest celebration on campus.
Volunteers will be assigned to tasks varying from organizing graduates during the Duck Grad Parade to welcoming guests into Matthew Knight Arena to assisting with each department ceremony. They will be trained during a one-hour seminar on either June 12, 13 or 14, where they will receive a personalized schedule of where to be, when to be there and what they will be doing on commencement day, Monday, June 19.
Volunteers will be equipped with radios, maps and ceremony times on a lanyard to ensure the day goes smoothly. In addition, they will receive a free t-shirt and will be well fed throughout their shift.
“Our volunteers tell us every year how rewarding it is to watch the graduating students celebrate this special day in their lives,” said Amy Quiring, director of major student events. “It truly is a team effort, and our volunteers make the difference in creating a wonderful graduation experience for our graduates and guests.”
To sign up, volunteers can fill out an online survey, which describes each job and the time requirement.
