Knight Campus Building 2
Some employees are excited for additional collaborative research spaces while others can’t wait to dine alongside the Millrace at UO Dining’s Riverfront Bistro. The new eatery will be open weekdays with fresh, modern and locally inspired offerings, including coffee. No opening date has been announced.
The second building of the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is scheduled to open after spring break. Most fencing has been taken down with a few areas taped off between safety cones. Both bicycle lanes are open on Riverfront Parkway, and a covered bike parking structure is near the entrance. Lab personnel and supplies and other units will be moving in during the spring and summer terms.
Hamilton and Walton Transformation Project
A welcoming green space and an NCAA beach volleyball facility will take the place of the previous residence halls. The site, located from Unthank Hall north to East 13th Avenue, will be fenced until the completion of construction. The sidewalk on the south side of 13th between Agate Street and the Ford Alumni Center will be closed until June. Concrete work will cause closures to sidewalks and crosswalks near Unthank Hall through June. Campus will be notified when the closure dates are confirmed. Landscaping will begin in May with irrigation work and continue through July with planting and grass installation beginning in June. Completion is scheduled for late August.
Friendly Hall Deferred Maintenance and Renovation Project
Friendly Hall, the third oldest structure on the UO campus, is undergoing a full renovation. The building is surrounded by a fence and the sidewalk in front on East 13th Avenue will be closed through fall term 2027. When completed, the building will bring together UO’s School of Global Studies and Languages programs currently in different buildings across campus.
East Campus Housing/Next Generation Residence Halls
A seven-story residence hall is rising on East 17th Avenue between Moss and Columbia streets. Portions of 17th will be closed during spring term to traffic and updates on which section can be found on the campus closures, shutdowns and detours webpage. The construction site is fully fenced including the sidewalks. Phase one will open for its first class of residents in fall 2027.
Hatfield-Dowlin Complex Practice Field Expansion
Pre’s Trail Bridge over the Canoe Canal near Autzen Stadium is closed through April with detours in place. Visitors are asked to be aware of large trucks, construction equipment and personnel on Leo Harris Parkway. Road realignment will close the parkway at a future date. The project continues into spring 2027.
UO Portland Child Behavioral Health Building
The Child Behavioral Health Building will house the Ballmer Institute for Children’s Behavioral Health and Prevention Science Institute on the UO Portland campus. Site preparation has begun with fencing going up. Deconstruction of the 6441 NE 30th Avenue house and demolition of Elizabeth Hall, Mary Neils Hall and Weber Hall will begin April 6 with demolition of Centennial Hall to follow May 18.
McKenzie Hall
The Office of Campus Planning announced a $150,000 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. With support from the Getty Foundation, this funding will help to develop a historic preservation and interpretation plan for McKenzie Hall, designed by DeNorval Unthank Jr., the first Black graduate of UO’s architecture school. UO is one of 24 sites to receive funding to advance ongoing preservation activities for historic sites, buildings and landscapes that represent Black cultural heritage.
