The Office of Human Resources will host two wellness seminars in October with a focus on building healthy relationships. Both seminars take place during the lunch hour from noon to 1 p.m.
“Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia: The Basics,” the second of a three-part elder care connection series, will take place Thursday, Oct. 18, in Room 115, Lawrence Hall. The seminar will focus on supporting loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. It will review the stages of the diseases and connect participants with community resources.
The final elder care seminar, titled “Caregiver Communication Strategies for Alzheimer’s and Dementia,” is offered Friday, Nov. 2, also in Room 115, Lawrence Hall.
On Thursday, Oct. 25, human resources is leveraging the expertise of Tiffany Brown, clinical director of the Couples and Family Therapy Program and a senior lecturer in the Department of Counseling Psychology and Human Services to guide faculty and staff through the relationship check-in approach. Applicable to all types of relationships, this approach is built on communication theory and an evidence-based couples therapy model.
These seminars are free sessions open to all benefit-eligible employees. Each session will be broadcast live via a webinar to UO Portland and the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston.
More information about each session and registration instructions are available on the wellness seminar series webpage. As with other wellness seminars hosted by human resources, a recording of each presentation will be posted to the HR website.
