Michael Redding, vice president of university relations at the University of Oregon, announced today (March 7) that he has accepted a position at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He will begin his new job April 30. Redding has served as a senior UO administrator in a variety of roles since 2000. He has been a member of the president's cabinet since 2004 and served as vice president for university advancement before taking on his current role in 2010.
Graduate studies enrollment data shows moderate growth in overall programs in recent years, Provost James Bean said, in a recent message to the UO community. In recent communications to the campus, Bean has reviewed the Oregon Budget Model and how funds are allocated across schools and colleges. Recently, the provost illustrated how undergraduate student credit hours, majors and degrees – the data used to apply the budget model – have changed across campus during the past few years.
“Balaganchik,” or "The Puppet Show," is a tale of mystics, romance and a global revolution. This bilingual adaptation of Aleksandr Blok's 1906 Symbolist play will be presented free to the public at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 10, in Room 123 of the Global Scholars Hall, 1710 E. 15th Ave.
Reuben Zahler, an assistant professor of history with the University of Oregon, was interviewed Wednesday (March 6) by The Wall Street Journal’s new talk show, “The Daily Wrap,” on the death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and the future of U.S.-Venezuela relations.
The final open campus forum to discuss the issue of arming University of Oregon's campus police offiers was the best-attended, with at least 50 students, faculty and staff on hand for Wednesday's (March 6) discussion in the Knight Library Browsing Room. A total of three forums – the first on Feb. 11 and the second Feb. 26 – were held to share information and discuss the issue of armed police officers. Interim UOPD Chief Carolyn McDermed also hosted five open, small-group meetings that concluded on March 5.
