“Glass is just another medium in my vocabulary. [In school] I do art, but it’s mostly 2-D. Three-D, like in glass, gives me a nice break, but it’s still within my language. Anything you see in 2-D, you can transform into a 3-D object. You just need to know how, and that’s what I’m learning still!”

The Art of Teamwork
“In glassblowing, you really have to work together. If your teammate is blowing too light, the glass won’t expand where you want it. So you need to be giving constant feedback. You have to be vocal with what you need. It makes you practice communicating.”
Teacher and Student
“I want to be a teacher, so this job was a real opportunity for me. I got to learn how a studio works. I got to learn to instruct. I got to learn to make a curriculum for a class. Everything I’ve learned in the Craft Center can be applied to other jobs. Because I’m an artist, I wanted my résumé to reflect what I want to do, so it was very important to me to get this job.”

Where Else But the UO?
“I visited another university and I saw their craft center, but they didn’t have glassblowing. So that right there is amazing to have. UO students voted for that space because they wanted that craft to be accessible. That’s a unique privilege to have.”
