Best Work Experience So Far
Covering Rec Night at IntroDUCKtion
“There were students climbing the rock wall, and I asked one of the rock climbing belayers, ‘Hey, do you think I could get up on that rope?’ They said yes, so I put on a harness. There I was, swinging from the top of the rock climbing wall, shooting photos and getting paid for it.”
Personal Business
Justin Hartney Photography
“I thought to myself, what do I want to do after college? Why can’t I do that now? This is what I envisioned when I first got into photography. I want to do this for a living, and I’m starting to see that begin to actually happen.”
On Mixing Work, Class, and Play
“I feel like my student job is an extension of my business, and it’s an extension of my classwork. Seeing other photographers and videographers and the pace they work at, how they manage a shoot, or whatever it may be, it’s something I can directly learn from.”

True Passion
Landscape photography
“The state of Oregon is a paradise. I couldn’t have planned a better school to attend. The academic experience is what I want, but also in my free time I’m able to shoot beautiful scenery. With landscape photography, it’s all about where you are. Being in Eugene, you have waterfalls, the coast, mountains, all so close—I really feel like I’m in a special spot.”
