A 1949 UO accounting graduate, Peterson was honored with the Presidential Medal in 2004 and the Pioneer Award in 2011.
The awards recognize students who are academically outstanding and are leaders in the campus community. Nominations are due Feb. 29.
The visit marked the first time all seven of Oregon's public universities visited the Capitol on the same day to meet with lawmakers.
In addition to funding at least 40 new doctoral students, the funding also will help the university boost diversity in the Graduate School.
A recognized researcher and mentor, Snodrass will lead the development of a new Center for Undergraduate Excellence.
