Former provost James Bean has accepted a position as provost of Northeastern University in Boston and will leave the University of Oregon after 11 years. Bean served as UO provost from 2008 to 2013 and oversaw the introduction of the PathwayOregon program for Pell Grant-eligible students during an enrollment surge at the UO, and he was pivotal in the introduction of a new academic budget model recently described in the Chronicle of Higher Education.
