Career Readiness

Start here, go everywhere
Preparing Ducks for life after graduation

The University of Oregon is dedicated not only to preparing students for their first job out of college, but for a lifetime of career success.

The UO provides various centers and resources to help students learn about career options and paths; develop strategies to find and prepare for part-time jobs, internships, and full-time career opportunities; and meet potential employers and reach their fullest career potential. Through these programs and events, students can gain on-the-ground experience in their chosen majors that will help launch them into the professional world after graduation.

“This experience has allowed me to take a peek into the nonprofit sector, where it’s not as easy to find paid internships as in other fields. I think this experience has taught me so much about how to work with others, as well as given me an opportunity to research topics I am interested in.”

Equipping our students with the tools for success

The UO offers a number of tools, resources, and software to help students build the experience and skill sets needed to become career ready. Handshake is a software program that allows students to search all the available jobs and internships and meet with employers who are actively recruiting from the UO.

But the platform isn’t only for the job search. Through Handshake, students can get assistance with résumés and cover letters, mock interviews, career planning, and can register for career fairs and events.

Whether students decide to connect to a local job through Handshake, apply to one of many internship experiences in Eugene or Portland, or fine-tune their interview skills at the University Career Center, the UO’s commitment to supporting career readiness helps all Ducks take flight.
