Environmental Science Institute develops effective solutions to environmental challenges
As part of its mission to promote excellence in research in environmental sciences, the recently launched Environmental Science Institute at the University of Oregon is giving rise to collaborations that address environmental challenges in new ways.
Training Aug. 16 covers violence on campus
An Aug. 16 training on “Violence on Campus” will address early identification, resources and response.
The training is hosted by the Counseling and Testing Center, Emergency Management & Continuity and the University of Oregon Police Department.
Wave of UO construction gaining momentum
Seven construction projects to support the University of Oregon's core academic mission will pump a combined $299.74 million into the economy and create more than 2,700 construction jobs as the projects' starting dates are staggered over the coming year.
Two of the projects – a combined $44 million in maintenance, seismic upgrades, renovation and classroom expansion at Straub and Earl halls, and a $50.25 million Student Recreation Center expansion – are getting underway this summer.
Law student O’Malley wins first trial as an intern
Legal intern Colleen O'Malley's summer is off to a good start. She recently won her first trial under the supervision of a deputy district attorney for Deschutes County.
O’Malley, a student in the University of Oregon School of Law who lives in Eugene, is a certified legal intern with the Deschutes Office of the District Attorney.
Law student receives degree, fellowship post
University of Oregon School of Law graduate Ian Adams has found his home in public policy.
Adams, who recently received his degree from the law school, has won a rare spot as a Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellow for the California State Assembly.
Adams, of Sacramento, was selected for one of six spots available to fellows on the Republican side of the assembly. When his role begins in October, he will work with members, meet with constituents and stakeholders and utilize his legal training.

Ghana follows school for journalism students
For 16 School of Journalism and Communication students, school did not end with their final exams. Two graduate students and 14 undergraduates joined professors Leslie Steeves and Ed Madison for a six-week study abroad program in Ghana.

UO leads state, ranks high among U.S. public institutions in Forbes rankings
The University of Oregon's selection this week as the state's top-ranked public university by Forbes magazine did not surprise the UO's chief enrollment officer. Nationally, the UO placed 65th among public institutions.
"Forbes is a well known, national publication that has experience looking at institutions across the country," said Roger J. Thompson, vice provost for enrollment management. "This ranking from Forbes demonstrates that the University of Oregon is not only strong academically, but we're also affordable."
