An emergency incident (a possible blown transformer in the utility tunnel) has been reported near the University Health Center. At least one explosion was heard, and smoke was reported coming from tunnels between the Health Center and the Walton Residence Hall complex. Eugene Fire Department and UOPD are on scene to investigate; pedestrians and cyclists are being re-routed away from the area and Agate Street is being closed between 13th Avenue and 15th Avenue. Everyone is asked to avoid the area. More information will follow.

Allen Hall, whose earliest wing has been a part of the University of Oregon campus for 91 years, will be a spanking new place for faculty, staff and students of the School of Journalism and Communication who return to the building for winter term.

There may be concepts scribbled on whiteboards or ideas projected on large flat screens. Students may huddle around tables, arguing the best answer to a challenge and pinning each new solution to the wall.

On Oct. 16, there was a cholera breakout on the University of Oregon campus, and no information on the contamination source.

Fortunately, it was a mock crisis – and assistant professor Chris Bone’s Geography 181 students were on the case.
