Common Reading choice for 2018-19 narrowed to three books

Using the theme “Transborder/Transnational,” the UO Common Reading selection committee has narrowed to three the list of books under consideration for the 2018-19 selection.

Almost 50 books were considered, and additional feedback on the finalists is needed by Jan. 29. The three final nominations are:

“Each final book nomination offers an engaging story of family saga, family legacy, histories of shame and pride, loneliness, longing and love,” said Julie Voelker-Morris, Common Reading program faculty fellow. “Each book shares a narrative — biographical or novel — about understanding one’s individual and cultural identity as reconciled with parental choices influencing the outcomes of their children’s lives.”

The campus community is encouraged to provide feedback on the final three nominations, based on the Common Reading criteria. Of special note in the final selection is the ability or likelihood of student and faculty engagement and related curricular and programming opportunities throughout the year.
