Community invited to spruce up campus on University Day

Join fellow community members in celebrating University Day, a long-standing University of Oregon tradition dating back to 1904 to prepare the university grounds for commencement ceremonies.

Students, staff, faculty members, alumni and community members are encouraged to dig in and have some fun Thursday, May 15, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Volunteers will be assigned to a section of campus to plant flowers, weed garden beds or clean up litter. There will also be rock painting on the Collier House lawn.

The main check-in location will be under the Columbia Hall covered area on the corner of University Street and East 13th Avenue, across from Erb Memorial Union. For those that choose to work the Eugene Millrace area, check in at the gazebo near Franklin Boulevard and Onyx Street.

Supplies are provided and employees should check with their supervisor before joining the event. Sharing one hour of time earns participants a free University Day T-shirt, treats and a great vibe.

A special event this year is the 11 a.m. tree dedication with the Vice President of Student Life, Angela Chong, and President Karl Scholz, at the millrace. Afterward, Emily Hamblen, the campus natural areas steward, will lead a tour of the project areas.
