Undergraduate Studies and University Housing invite faculty members to apply for a new opening in the faculty-in-residence program.
Currently, the UO hosts associate professor of linguistics Julie Sykes, along with her family, in the Global Scholars Hall as a part of the program. Next year, the UO will have an additional position in a new residence hall, at East 17th Avenue and Moss Street south of the Global Scholars Hall.
Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies Lisa Freinkel said the faculty-in-residence program positions faculty members to create a dynamic living-learning environment in UO residence halls.
“The program is a part of the network of academic connections and support for our undergraduate students,” Freinkel said. “This program affirms a culture of inquiry at the heart of the entire UO undergraduate experience and connects research faculty with students from the beginning of their college career.”
The new residence hall, which will be completed this summer, will feature four academic residential communities and several innovative teaching spaces designed to explore the themes and subjects of the communities.
The faculty apartment is a furnished, two-bedroom apartment with an office. Candidates will be able to see renderings of the apartment during the recruitment process, which will conclude before the end of the current academic year.
Full information and application information is available on the Human Resources website. The anticipated closing date is March 1, followed by interviews for all qualified candidates.
An information session for interested candidates will be held today, Feb. 28, at 5:30 p.m. in Sykes’ Global Scholars Hall apartment. Interested faculty also can contact Freinkel at vpugs@uoregon.edu.
