Gabe Paquette, dean of the Clark Honors College, has been selected to be the next vice provost for academic affairs.

Provost and Senior Vice President Patrick Phillips made the announcement on Thursday, saying that Paquette will help ensure the academic success of UO faculty by overseeing tenure, promotion, faculty performance review, post-tenure review, development plans, and sabbaticals.

Paquette came to UO in 2018 after seven years at Johns Hopkins University. As dean of CHC, he led the college through interdisciplinary curriculum reform, increased class sizes, designed strategic planning, and was instrumental in making the institution one of three public universities to host the prestigious “Calderwood Seminars in Public Writing.”

“In Gabe, we have an exceptionally capable person who has a clear and polished track record of digging into the work to find creative solutions,” Phillips said in his announcement. “He is accustomed to working closely with faculty in a way that harnesses excellent teaching and connects to positive outcomes when it comes to student experience.”

Paquette’s new position makes him a part of the Office of the Provost. He will begin as vice provost for academic affairs on Sept. 1. Phillips will work with his leadership team, CHC faculty, and academic and senate leadership to appoint an interim dean for CHC.
